March 10th is World Kidney Day. Established in 2006, it is a joint initiative of the International Society of Nephrology (ISN) and the International Federation of Kidney Foundations (IFKF). The global campaign aims to raise awareness around the importance of our kidneys in overall health, and to reduce the frequency and impact of kidney disease.

This year’s theme is Kidney Health for All – Bridging the Gap to Better Kidney Care. The goal is to drive awareness around kidney health and close what can be a deadly knowledge gap regarding kidney disease. The complex nature of the disease, coupled with a lack of concerted kidney health focus, often allows the disease to progress undetected. An estimated 37 million Americans suffer from Chronic Kidney Disease, yet 90% of them are unaware of their condition until they reach complete renal failure.

Successful kidney disease management requires us to understand the disease so that we can address it early. Kidney disease is progressive and irreversible, but we can slow the progression and improve outcomes through properly managed care. Through collaborative education on risk factors and healthy behaviors, screening, and interventions, we can reduce the impact of chronic kidney disease across the population.

Healthmap CEO, Eric Reimer, notes, “by increasing baseline awareness and education in the healthcare community, we will dramatically reduce the impact of chronic kidney disease across the patient population, improving quality of life and clinical outcomes.”

This World Kidney Day, we invite you to join us on our mission to spread kidney health awareness. Healthmap Solutions has been enhancing kidney health and managing kidney disease for nearly a decade.
