In 2022, more than 130,000 Americans developed end-stage renal disease (ESRD). While the majority entered dialysis, only 15% chose to do dialysis at home. Despite the many benefits it offers patients and providers, home dialysis remains chronically underutilized in the U.S., especially in socioeconomically disadvantaged populations. In this article, we identify the reasons for this situation and discuss the strategies Healthmap is successfully employing to increase home dialysis use among our Kidney Population Health Management program members.
